Sources say that Chavan and Wasnik have denied any plan to contest the elections. Shashi Tharoor is the first leader to express his willingness to contest for the post of Congress President. He has also met Sonia Gandhi for this. At present, Sonia Gandhi is the interim president of the Congress. Whereas his son Rahul Gandhi had resigned from the post of Congress President after the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Yesterday, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh appealed to Rahul Gandhi to take over as the President. On this occasion, when asked if he would like Ashok Gehlot or Shashi Tharoor in the leadership role, apart from Rahul, Digvijay Singh said: “Let’s see. I’m not dismissing myself either, you want me out.” Why do you want to keep it?”

He added: “Everyone has the right to contest elections… you will know the answer on the evening of the 30th.” Those willing to run for Congress President can apply till 30 September. If needed, elections will be held on October 17 and results will be declared after two days.
