Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Friday that a new Telecom Bill can be brought within six to ten months but the government is in no hurry.
When asked about the timeline for the final implementation of the bill, Vaishnav said, “After the process of deliberation, we will prepare the final draft which will go before the concerned parliamentary committee after which it will be brought to the Parliament.” I think it will take six to ten months but we are not in any hurry.
The Department of Telecom has set October 20 as the deadline for the draft bill. The bill will replace three laws: the Indian Telegraph Act 1885, the Indian Wireless Telegraph Mechanics Act 1933 and the Wire Mechanics (Unlawful Possession) Act 1950.
